The company attributes much of its success in reaching millions of students and educators to a strong relationship with Google for Education. Screencastify is available on Chromebooks, integrated with Google Classroom, and can be used through a Chrome extension. It’s a big reason why educators have chosen Screencastify as their trusted platform to make and share videos.” “That’s typically a time-intensive process for educators, and every step we can eliminate in that process is tremendously valuable. “We focused on the time from when a teacher finishes recording a video to when that video is watched by students,” says James. With Screencastify, educators can record lessons that students can watch on Chromebooks to help them stay on top of their subjects.Ĭombining a simple video production tool with Drive allows educators to share content directly through Google Classroom and get lessons into students’ hands with ease. “This has been especially powerful with schools closed due to COVID-19 because educators can record and make lessons available on demand.”Īlthough most students learn best with face-to-face interaction, including web meetings, it can be difficult to coordinate lessons due to scheduling, technical challenges, and other factors. “If a student is out one day, takes longer than other classmates to grasp a subject, or even learns faster than other students, educators can use Screencastify to enable more customized learning,” says James. Screencastify found that it’s most valuable offering was giving educators the ability to easily record videos for individual students and classes, providing students with on-demand lessons they can watch as frequently and whenever they need. Managed Service for Microsoft Active Directory Rapid Assessment & Migration Program (RAMP) Hybrid and Multi-cloud Application PlatformĬOVID-19 Solutions for the Healthcare Industry That’s three different educational technologies.Discover why leading businesses choose Google Cloud Here’s a really short recording I made with Screencastify, including computer audio, to show how Microsoft Learning Tools performs text to speech, using a document about a desktop robot we use for students in the hospital to attend school virtually. Screencastify is one of the tools we use in our office to record video tutorials. You can share through either Google Drive or Youtube.
Their website proclaims that with it, you can “Capture, edit and share video screencasts.” The capture and share would be the free part, and the editing would be the premium part. Like many EdTech products, Screencastify is a freemium product, meaning it has a free version, but you can also pay for premium features. Play around with it over the summer, and get used to recording yourself, so you’ll be comfortable producing videos for your students by the next school year!
In addition to removing the watermark and any limits to length or numbers of videos, the premium version also allows you to crop videos, and the additional exporting options of MP4 and GIF. The free version allows recordings up to 10 minutes and up to 50 videos/month, but with a watermark. It even allows you to choose to record just a single application window (like Microsoft Word). Various screencasting tools come with various features, including whether or not they can record audio from a microphone, or the computer’s system audio, and whether they can record just a single tab, or the entire desktop. Screencasting, if you don’t know, means recording what is on your computer screen. As a reminder, a chrome extension is a mini-program that runs through the Chrome browser, usually from a third-party (not made by Google). First up is Screencastify- “Simple Screen Video Recorder”. As promised late last week, here is the first installment of the Chrome Extension of the Day.
